Welcoming Words from Chinook Winds Region

As Executive Minister for Chinook Winds Region, I am happy to welcome you to start following the 44th General Council website as our region prepares to welcome some 500 representatives of The United Church of Canada from across the country to Calgary, AB, July 21-25, 2021.

I continue to be inspired by the people and ministries of Chinook Winds Region. I know you will be also. The Calgary meeting will also be an exciting and historical experience - the first General Council hosted by a regional council since the United Church restructured from a four-court to a three-council governance model on January 1, 2019.

Please consider becoming a commissioner (delegate) for GC44. Many regional councils will be electing Commissioners this year at their spring 2020 meetings. Commissioners will be participating in online webinars in the winter months leading up to the July 2021 gathering.

The 2021 meeting also provides an opportunity to experience the beauty and culture of Alberta. Consider coming earlier to take in the Calgary Stampede that runs July 9-18. Or stay a few days after to enjoy Banff National Park or the Kananaskis area in the nearby Rockies, or experience the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller.

I am grateful for the efforts of volunteers and staff already at work preparing for the 2021 meeting, including Sue Brodrick, Chair of the GC44 Planning Committee, and the Rev. Nancy Nourse, Chair, Local Arrangements.

Looking forward to welcoming you to Chinook Winds Region in July 2021!

Treena Duncan
Executive Minister, Chinook Winds Region
